The lengths that Singaporeans will travel to find good authentic food is legendary. This is also true when they are in Melbourne!
We were very surprised and happy when Mamak Satti Power recently moved to Carlton. Carlton is a vibrant suburb and is renowned for its wide offerings of diverse foods. Among the myriad of food establishments that populate this area, Mamak Satti stands out for those seeking authentic Singapore cuisine. The owners are Singaporeans and they understand and are able to replicate the unique flavours of Indian food that are so loved back in Singapore.

Wasting no time, we headed down to the new restaurant one evening. Eyes wide with anticipation, we ordered bee hoon goreng with extra egg on top, a small serve of Indian Rojak and finally, a serve of Chicken Murtabak.
First on the table was a serve of Indian Rojak. We chose pieces of tempeh, dough fritter with ikan bilis, tau hu and fish cake. This dish is available every evening, unlike some other eateries. Presentation is fantastic and the sauce tasted just like in any coffeeshop in the HDB heartlands. Delightful!
As they say, we eat with our eyes as much as with our stomachs. The first impression of the bee hoon goreng was already a 5 stars affair. The strands of fried bee hoon had the pre-requisite red colour and more importantly, they were fluffy and not overcooked in oil.
The Chicken Murtabak was definitely the big winner. It had big chunks of delectable chicken pieces within the generous dough. Best part was that minced chicken could be found in the accompanying curry as well! No watery or thin generic curry in this restaurant!
The owners are friendly and we would definitely be back to savour the other dishes in their wide menu!
