Lygon Street in Carlton is famous for its many established restaurants. One is assailed with the smells of many cuisines when walking along both sides of this street. Historically, Italian migrants from decades ago congregated in Lygon Street. Hence, it is no wonder that there are many fine Italian restaurants there today. However, with the passage of time, many other cuisines have found they way there too.
With Asian food on our minds, we walked along the rows of eateries one afternoon and stumbled across a Korean restaurant!
Name: Seoul Pocha Korean Eatery & Pub
Location: 173 Lygon Street, Carlton, VIC 3053
We liked what we saw in the extensive menu. Sitting down on a dark wood table and bench, we were very quickly served with tap water. In less than 10 minutes, our 2 orders of Bibimbap with spicy chicken and with beef magically appeared. Serving size was decent and the plating faultless.
The taste was generally ok at the price point of these rice dishes. There were generous amounts of meat pieces and the fried eggs lent a good flavour. The kimchi side dishes were rather bland, though.
We also ordered the red bean & macha bingsu.
Now this was indeed well presented! The eclectic mix of sweet red bean paste with the bitterness of green macha was a winner in our books. We thoroughly enjoyed the dessert, more than the rice dishes, we may add.
Would we return for more? Yes! The menu is indeed huge and there are a lot more goodies to try out such as the ever popular Korean fried chicken and other noodles dishes.
Till the next visit, happy eating!
