Unlike a decade ago, it is now not hard to find local eateries serving up good Malaysian or Singaporean cuisine. One fine example is Mama Mee restaurant situated in the Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre at Hoppers Crossing.
Name: Mama Mee
Location: 10 Heaths Road, Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre, Hoppers Crossing, VIC 3029
Mama Mee is our old haunt when it comes to satisfying our cravings for well known hawker fares back home. We usually visit at least once a month. There is a large variety of dishes in the menu from chicken rice, mee goreng and seafood laksa noodles to more high end dishes like steamed fish in Teochew sauce (secret dish variant that isn’t found in the standard menu!).
In our last visit, we ordered Sizzling Beef, Sizzling Tofu with Minced Pork and Fried Fish in Soy Sauce.
Service was quick and attentive. The staff knew their processes well and we were quickly sat on our table and had our orders taken. It was always a joy to watch the beef and tofu dishes sizzling away as they were brought out of the kitchen and onto our table.
As they say, we eat with our eyes and both dishes were certainly presented well. The taste was what we would expect. We dug in hungrily with our bowls of fragrant coconut rice (very lemak!) while we waited for the star dish to arrive.
The fish dish was certainly worth the wait. Fried to crispy perfection, the whole fish was drenched in soy sauce with ginger slices and Chinese condiments. Picking through the choice morsels was an experience in itself but you would have to watch for small bones, though.
We like going to Mama Mee as the restaurant is spacious and the service, quick. It also helps that they serve authentic Asian favourites at competitive prices.
