When money is tight and you still want to eat out

Too Good to Go

You know that feeling …. It’s coming to the end of the month and to no surprise, the food budget is almost depleted. Sigh …..

You could:

A) eat instant noodles at home for lunch and dinner (again)

B) buy groceries from cheaper options like Aldi or Cheaper Buy Miles

C) hunt around for cheap eats

D) buy coupons from Groupon or discounted gift cards from Best Restaurants

E) download apps like “Too Good to Go” or “EatClub”!!!

Having done A, B, C and D for years, we were very delighted to come across apps that allow customers to purchase food at sometimes hugely discounted prices.

We have been users of the “EatClub” app since a year ago. Basically, it allows participating eateries to offer daily digital vouchers with varying discounts at varying times. The idea is to attract people to visit the premises, perhaps during their off peak timings, for example.

The concept resonated well with us and we have been trying out new restaurants and dishes with sometimes up to 50% off. Most of the time, the discounts amount to about 30%. What we realised is that most of eateries in the app are found in the CBD and surrounding inner city suburbs.

It is indeed a grand feeling to waltz into a restaurant knowing that the dishes we pick all come with good discounts.

However, the “Too Good to Go” app has a different concept whereby participating eateries put out digital vouchers for food that will normally be left over at the end of the day. For a predetermined price, users can purchase and collect the “surprise bags”.

The important thing to note is that the contents of the bags are not fixed (it depends on the food left at the end of the day). Having bought surprise bags from many vendors now, we have our favourites and we usually get our fixes at least twice a week. Such bags are sold cheaply and the customers & the vendors get to reduce food waste, to boot.

As an example, I recently paid $7.99 for a surprise bag from a well known cafe called “Sir Charles”. Below was what I received in the bag …. wow !!!!!

So there you go, you don’t have to pay full price for outside food nor do you have to opt to cook at home all the time, just to save money!

Download these two cost saving apps now and eat like royalty!
