In the early days of moving to Melbourne, we were, like most Singaporeans, concerned about home security. We were one of those that installed a heavy front door gate and window grills for our HDB flat back then. Upon moving into a standalone house in the suburbs, we were worried about home invasions and vandalism.
We decided on having CCTV cameras to deter and record wrong doings.
Our main criteria were:
a) battery powered and wifi enabled cameras to do away with need for dedicated cablings
b) ability to view recordings from our phones
c) no subscription fees for video storage
There are plenty of options in the market and with careful research, we decided on the Eufy brand range of cameras. Eufy security cameras have emerged as a leading choice for homeowners, primarily due to their emphasis on local storage and the absence of mandatory monthly subscription fees. Owned by Anker Innovations, the brand offers a diverse ecosystem of indoor, outdoor, and specialized cameras designed for easy DIY installation and high-resolution monitoring.
In the typical home setup, there will be the HomeBase 3 (S380) which acts as the local hub to allow connection of up to 16 cameras and 34 sensors. It comes with 16GB of in-built storage which is expandable by adding a 2.5 inch hard drive. The device has advanced AI features like facial recognition, which can distinguish between family members and strangers to reduce false alerts.
There is a plethora of outdoor and indoor cameras and sensors available. Some examples are:

Eufycam 3 (S330): 4K wireless cameras featuring built-in solar panels. With enough exposure to sunlight, they can remain powered indefinitely, eliminating the need for manual recharging.

Eufycam S350: 4K wireless camera with dual lenses and 360-degree pan-and-tilt. Privacy features like Home Privacy Mode allow the lens to physically rotate away when you are home.
We found setting up of these cameras to be easy with minimum fuss. They come with screw mounts or magnetic bases. Installing and configuring the app on our phones is also a cinch. We are able to easily view live feeds and be alerted to any motion within the field of view of the cameras.
Do consider the Eufy brand with its good range of products in its eco-system.
We are glad we did!
